Amazon has announced that it will be buying the venture capital-backed startup, PillPack.
PillPack delivers medications directly to patients in pre-sorted dose packaging, coordinates refills and renewals, and makes sure shipments are sent on time. It is geared towards patients who take several daily medications. Touting a “better pharmacy experience,” PillPack is authorized to ship drugs in 49 states.
Shares of other pharmacy chains, drug distributors, and pharmacy-benefit managers fell as Amazon's long-awaited healthcare plan began to unfold.
While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the companies expect the deal to close during the second half of the year.
