Former Valeant Pharmaceuticals executive Gary Tanner and the former chief of now-defunct mail order pharmacy Philidor Rx Services Andrew Davenport were found guilty of defrauding Valeant through a multimillion-dollar kickback scheme. The verdict was handed to the two on Tuesday in a Manhattan federal court.
Prosecutors claimed that Tanner passed inside information to Davenport to strengthen Philidor as Valeant’s primary pharmacy partner. In exchange for Tanner’s help, Davenport paid Tanner approximately $9.7 million. Prosecutors said that Tanner sabotaged deals between Valeant and other pharmacies as well.
Valeant itself has denied any wrongdoing in connection with Philidor. But in order to distance itself from this incident, Valeant recently announced it will change its name to Bausch Health Companies.
