In another move showcasing the unprecedented collaboration of major pharma companies during the pandemic, Sanofi has announced that it will help Pfizer ramp up production of its vaccine.
Starting in July, the French drugmaker said it will utilize its facility in Frankfurt, Germany to help make 100 million doses of COVID-19 shots developed by Pfizer/BioNTech.
The announcement comes as Sanofi struggles to get the vaccine candidate it is developing with GlaxoSmithKline ready to launch. Last month, the companies reported that their candidate had not shown the desired immune response in older patients and that rollout could be delayed until later this year.
With its own vaccine stalled, Paul Hudson, Sanofi’s CEO, said that the company wanted to find a new way to assist the global efforts to curb the pandemic.
