ISPE Reveals Pharma Facility of the Year Winners
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in China, Ireland, Germany and the United States have been recognized in the 11th annual International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) program.
ISPE announced the following winners in a press release: AstraZeneca China was awarded the 2015 FOYA Project Execution category for its market supply solid-dose facility in Taizhou, China. AstraZeneca’s in-country team used the company’s global engineering, operations, and safety practices to complete the 533,000 sq. ft. facility in 20 months, and 18% under budget.
Astellas Pharma was awarded the 2015 FOYA in the Equipment Innovation category for its tube packaging and labeling equipment project. Astellas Ireland Co Ltd. (Kerry) delivered a technology innovation allowing it to fill product into tubes that are printed with only common information for various markets, and introduced a process to add country-specific label information on the tubes.
IDT Biologika GMbH was awarded the 2015 FOYA Facility Integration category for its biologics and vaccines production facility in Dessau, Germany. The automated manufacturing facility for filling and freeze-drying, designed to be modular and expandable, was designed to guarantee the shortest supply and disposal routes, according to ISPE.
Pharmalucence Pharmaceuticals has received a 2015 FOYA Honorable Mention for its aseptic filling facility in Billerica, Massachusetts.
The 2015 FOYA Overall Winner will be announced during the plenary session at the 2015 ISPE Annual Meeting on Nov. 8–11.
