Cadila Pharma closes API plant after workers test positive for COVID-19
Cadila Pharmaceuticals, one of the largest privately held pharma companies in India, shut down its API manufacturing plant in Ahmedabad after 26 employees tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a Reuters report.
The reported cited senior government official Arun Mahesh Babu, the District Development Officer of Ahmedabad, who told Reuters that five employees had tested positive for COVID-19 six days back, while 21 others tested positive this week.
Babu noted that the facility was ordered to be shut down on Thursday, 95 employees had been quarantined and sanitization at the site had begun.
In a statement, Cadila Pharmaceuticals told Reuters, “Recently, 26 of our employees from our Dholka manufacturing facility tested positive for COID-19. Following this, we have closed our operations on our own.”
